Big Blokes Aussie BBQ at Beaumaris Motor Yacht Squadron, for Prostate Cancer Awareness month
At the instigation of Commodore Ross Popplewell, from the Beaumaris Motor Yacht Squadron, the club decided to raise funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia, and at the same time promote men’s health and raise awareness about prostate cancer. The BBQ was run on Saturday 17th September, from 8.00am till noon, as a breakfast-brunch event. A raffle was also organised with some great prizes for the winners. With the club premises being on Beach Road, they were looking to attract the Saturday bike riders, club members and the wider community.
They invited Alan White, Counsellor at Shine Health Centre, Black Rock, and a volunteer Men’s Health Peer Educator, with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, to organise the health information side for the BBQ morning. There was generous support from Foundation 49 with their show bags and relevant men’s health information. Additional men’s health information was also supplied by Andrology Australia, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, PCFA and the Australian Prostate Cancer Research Centre.
